Bottle at home. Best before august 2018, really? An IPA? Oh well. Aroma is sweetish malt, caramel, resin, fruits, ripe orange, touch of hops. Flavour is above moderate sweet with a little bitterness in the finish. Body is medium. Rather malty and sweet, not nearly as fruity and bitter hoppy as I like my IPA, but it has a nice resinous aroma. I suppose this would probably taste the almost the same in august 2018...

Bottle 0,33 ltr: Hazy orange coloured brew with an dry bitter taste with hints of citrus, caramel and spices.

Dunkel hopfiger Beginn, viel Malz, etwas grasig. Milde Herbe, röstig, deutlich ansteigende Bitterkeit. Milde Süße, eher dumpf trotz des runden Hopfens. Mittellanger Abgang, nicht mein Fall. 10/8/9/7/9/7

Fles 33cl thuis. Fruitig, bitters, kruidig, caramel, citrus, droog, zoeten, licht honing, bloemig, rood fruittonen, malttonen, licht plakkerig. (26-8-2022).

330ml bottle at Cloos, Den Haag. Poured a hazy medium amber with a lasting frothy white head. The aroma is big malt, woody hops. The flavour is moderate bitter, light sweet, with a smooth, rich, toffee malt, light floral woody hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Bottle, 7.5%. Quite fruity aroma, a little perfumy. Citric with light caramel notes. Almost clear dark golden colour. Small frothy white head. The flavour has a light caramel note and some sweetness. Hint of soapy aroma hops. High carbonation.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with stable off-white head. Clear aroma of malt, yeast and hops, with grassy touches. Bitter flavour of hops and citrus, with spicy and malty notes and touches of fruit and yeast. Bitter and spicy aftertaste with acidic and malty touches. Not bad, just a little too sweet for my liking.

Dutch IPA the commercial way, pushing its way through Belgium as well alongside a whole string of more classically designed Heidebrouwerij beers. Some gushing indeed, but quite manageable if you are prepared. Towering high, membrane-lacing, egg-white, rocky and stable head, hazy peachy amber robe with ochre-ish tinge. Aroma of old dried orange peel, old rusk, fried tomato, some light melon, banana peel, dried lemon thyme, dried peach, hints of paprika powder, mown lawn, overripe onion, leek, chicken stock, sweaty feet, burning rubber and something very faintly smoky I cannot quite put my finger on. Fruity onset, sweetish with banana peel and apricot aspects flanked by subtle hints of red apple and cherry tomato, softish fizz (the carbon dioxide clearly not being well 'bound' here), slick and bit glueish body; bread-crusty, old-biscuity and softly toasty malts, generally remaining on the sweetish side if bittered a bit, especially when the hops set in, providing retronasal herbal, vague toasted onion and somewhat more pronounced citrus peel aspects as well as moderate bitterness. Hints of sweaty feet and rubber turn things a bit more to the 'dark side' - but worse, the alcohol eventually becomes noticeable, which should not be the case in a beer of this ABV. My sample may not have been in prime condition, but that does not take away the fact that this beer is a half-hearted 'Belgian' style IPA at best; the sweet melon-like note that lingers in the end does not have enough power to save the day. A bit messy and unbalanced, vaguely 'off' but drinkable alright - but by no means a match for the best IPAs the Netherlands have produced in the past fifteen years (Uiltje!) and clearly aimed at a larger, ignorant audience.
