Deep reddish in color, this strong lager is rich and complex, with a sweet malty backbone. Dried fruit, brandy, caramel, plum, and toasted malt flavors, coupled with a gentle alcohol warmth, make for an immensely pleasurable drinking experience. Perfect for settling back and relaxing by the fire on a cool fall evening.

Deep amber and bronze coloured body, all with a nice single centimetre tall tan head that fades quickly, and produces an amazing copper glow when held to a light. Aroma of metal, malt, toast, grains, earth, light funk and a dash of caramelised sugars and nuts. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong rich nutty and earthy grain shines through at first with a pungent caramel and sweet flavour that has a touch of spice towards the end, as well, all with a slight vegetal flavour at the end. Aftertaste shows a grainy bite with bunches of nuts and earth throughout and a slightly pungent bitterness from the grain and light Peaty flavours that dominate the finish and don't produce much sweetness at all. Overall, a decent enough doppelbock, but a touch thin and simplistic - the earthy and nutty flavours make this not complex enough, for the style or otherwise. Nice to try though, especially on tap and during the season. I sampled this sixteen ounce pour on draught at Whole Foods in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 04-November-2019 for US$6,00.

Draft pour at Dominion Beer and Wine's upstairs restaurant. Poured a dark, but clear copper orange color with not much of a head to speak of. Aroma was sweet resin notes, some earthy and mild floral hops. Sweet caramel, earthy finish. Easy to drink for the style.

Draft: Caramel, pecan, soil nose. Clear brown, medium yellow head. Nuttier on the palate, sweet caramel. Elderberry finish. Medium to full body, moderate carbonation. Sampled on the same day as Lagunitas' doppelbock, this one was better.
