Redwood tip red ale. Sweetish red ale, light herbaceous notes…that it’s tree tips kicks in the finish.

Sample at Monk’s Kettle. The beer is a dark ruby-brown color with a medium off-white head that diminishes gradually to an outer ring. Stringy lacing. Aroma of yeast, fruit and spruce. Medium body with flavors of roast malt, spice, fruit and nuts. The finish is roasty with an herbal yeast and malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

On tap in Santa Rosa. Pours a hazy brown appearance with a tan head. Aroma is kind of piney and herbal with some nuttiness. Slightly sweet flavor. Caramel and pecans. Spruce. Pretty easy to drink and kind of a fun beer.

On tap at Ølfestival 2011. A clear, dark brown beer with a tan, finger-thick head. Roasted malts and dried fruit notes on the nose. Pleasant but a bit one dimensional. The same goes for the flavor, it could use more depth, and the redwood tips isn’t very well pronounced. Maybe it’s the lack of hops that make it so one dimensional, maybe it’s not enough redwood tips in it. The finish has a herbal bitterness and some roasted hints. Medium body, pleasantly carbonated. Even though I’ve pointed out a few things with this beer, it’s a decent beer indeed, easy drinkable too. 110526
