Kentucky Ale® is described as a marriage between two classic beer styles, Irish Red Ale and English Pale Ale. With a light amber color, Kentucky Ale owes its body and character to select imported malts and a pinch of wheat malt for a rich, smooth taste.

Light amber in color, Kentucky Ale owes its unique body and character to select imported malts and a pinch of wheat malt for a rich, smooth taste.
The unique body and character of Kentucky Ale is heavily influenced by the water, drawn from aquifers in the limestone rock underlying the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky.

Sample @ Stockholm Beer & Whisky 2012. Pours clear amberish golden with a rather small frothy offwhite head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet and damp with old bread, orange peal, lemon zest, silage, slightly rotten fruits and berries and hints of caramel. Taste is sweet, malty and sugary with sweet dark bread, caramel, overripe plums, moist soil, cereal, red berries and hints of wood, orange peal, butterscotch and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is round, slightly smooth and light to medium bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with bread, caramel, grass, red berries and hints of citrus. Not a great beer but at least I got my state tick.

Bottle. Sweet orange, buttery caramel malt aroma. Hazy orange amber with a small off-white head. Citrusy butterscotch flavor. Medium creamy body. Upon seeing some rather harsh rating, I was expecting much worse from this beer. I was pleasantly surprised at the smooth, fruity malty flavor. So, it’s not a standout, but it’s actually among some of the better amber ales I’ve tried.

Yes, the taste reminds me of an English Pale ale and, yes, the taste reminds me of an Irish red ale. But I don’t care for the two styles mixed together. The beer is drinkable, but not remarkable in any way.

bottle - Pours clear light amber and has a mild toasted malt aroma. The flavor is sweet, lightly toasted caramel malt with minimal hops and a light body. It’s pretty mediocre.

Bottle. Amber beer with a soon disappearing fizzy head. The aroma is lightly roasted and toffee, and the flavour is bitter, roasted and quite malty. Overall a reasonable but basic beer.

Pours deep gold into a shaker. White micro head with excellent retention recedes leaving trailing sheets to coat surface. Sourdough and caramel aromas. Sweet butterscotch and toffee front to back. Mild sour bread in the dry finish.

Purchased at Hyde Park Wine & Spirits in Cincinnati, OH; enjoyed on a Wednesday night before band practice while my lady is away. Appearance is a slightly cloudy amber with a thin white head. Aroma of caramel malts and English hops, very dirty smell, like a proper English Pale Ale. Taste is very malty, a little too much for my tastes with the caramel / toasted malts, also very bready. Also got the bourbon barrel variety of this which I’m hoping is better.
