Back when Fuller’s originally brewed Double Stout, stout simply meant strong. Now, of course, in modern brewing parlance, stout is a style all of its own. It’s to be expected that a few things have changed in that time though – we first brewed it in 1893.

500 ml bottle from the lcbo.
Great looking beer, nice black pour with a great mocha head.
Light fruit on the nose with ample amounts of bitter cocoa, coffee, and some deep rich roasted malt, with touches of soy. Perfect carb, perfect mouthfeel. The roasted malt lingers and just stays forever. Soooo roasty, with a medium bitterness, and a touch of fruit in the end. This is a true classic example of an old world imperial stout. Just incredible stuff, it should be much higher in its style!

Bottle. Poured very dark brown with a creamy off-white to beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, liquorice, touch of coffee. Medium plus sweetness, moderate roasted bitterness. Quite full bodied, smooth texture, very soft carbonation. Nicely done.

Grainy smooth nose. The beer starts fresh malty. Nice fresh hopped, malty with a nice bitterness. Round and refreshing with a nice malty bitter aftertaste. Nice.

Bottle shared with Erzengel! A dark brown/black beer with a small tan head. Aroma of mild sweet chocolate, toffee. Taste of toffee, mild sweet chocolate, lactose, good!

2011 vintage. A deep dark stout with a thick collapsing brown head. In aroma, musty bitter chocolate with dark fruits, light peated notes, nice. In mouth, a sweet fruity chocolate malt with smooth vanilla notes, light dark fruits, smooth alcohol warmth, still solid after more than 4 years...BB 19-APR-2014

Rating for the past, completely forgot about it. Poured a deep black color, topped with a rather small tan colored head. Roasted aroma, some notes of coffee and chocolate also in there. Malty and chocolate taste, coffee and bitterness in the body and finish. A fine one.

Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, brown sugar and caramel. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long chocolate, caramel, licorice and coffee finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat.
