Huge bitterness, enough malt base to hold it together, resinous hop character and that oily, sappy, quenchy feeling that makes you want more. The USA still have the upper hand here. Will us Brits get there? Or have our pallets succumbed to the soft and pillowy juice?

Can at home, 23rd May 2025. Pours a rich clear copper. It’s hoppy and piney on the nose, with a hint of caramel. Taste is bitter, resinous, malty, lovely westie

Panda thanks to Cloin. Near clear amber beer with a small bubbly pale tan head. Light palate, semi dry, decent fine minerally carbonation. Malts bring a pretty modest creamy sweetness and a fair dose of unsweet caramel. Dry piney hop intro into mild skunk a reasonably bright citrus peel. Light crisp finish leaves a mild bitter linger. For me a good West Coaster, goes right up to the boundary of what annoys me about this style but never crosses it, stays coherent and pretty darn suppable.
