On the picturesque South Island of New Zealand, the Motueka River flows north from the mountains, separating the Riwaka and Motueka hop-growing regions before emptying into Tasman Bay. The clean mountain water of the Motueka River is used to irrigate the hop fields, resulting in some of the most unique and interesting hops in the world.
This New Zealand-Style Pilsner was single decoction mashed with a simple grain bill of Weyermann Barke Pilsner malt to showcase these beautiful hops. Riwaka, Motueka, and a pinch of Nelson Sauvin were used throughout the boil and in the whirlpool to express notes of tropical passionfruit, along with grapefruit, gooseberry, lemongrass, and a hint of cedar and pine.
