On tap at the Brewpub. Reddish brown body with a dense off-white head. Aroma is mild malty with a hint of dry fruit and brown sugar. Flavor is sweet malt, some caramel, candy sugar, some dry fruit and a pleasant acidulous touch. Harmonic palate, relatively strong, truly hides the high alcohol, but I feel some more bitterness to this would make it more harmonic, it’s a bit on the sticky side right now IMO.

On tap at the brewery. Served unclear, copper-colored, and with a medium sized, dense beige head leaving some nice lacings. The aroma was a bit weak, even when it warmed up, but it was pleasant. Sweet and malty with a weak hoppyness and some alcohol. A little touch of cellar as well. The flavor was more evident, sweet and alcohol-warming with dried fruits, some caramel and a little hint of smoke. Sticky, full-bodied and warming in the mouth. Some bitterness in the finish, as well as alcohol and sweetness. A well-crafted barley wine, but as the other beers they have, I think they are served too cold. Letting the beers, especially the stronger ones, heat up helps a lot on the experience. (080111)
