Notes from January 2011 I'm not geeky enough to carry around a notebook, so I usually settle on writing my notes on bar napkins or on the back of coasters. Here's one: Bottle from Charles Street. Poured into a Duvel glass I bought there... which ended up being lopsided. If Benjamin were an ice cream beer, he'd be pralines and dick Huh? Bleached head, strong retention, spotty lace. Didn't bother with holding back the sediment, so it appears a bit like a muddy lake bed, hazy with sand & debris sloshing around. Soapy lime & cut grass. Bit of grainy sweetness; aerosol. Taste is chalky, dry biscuits & bitter herbs. Some sharpness through the middle. Touch of sweetness. Lingering grapefruit rind finish. Feel is frothy, not overly carbonated, dusty & leaning towards dry. Alcohol is a bit potent for an APA. Decent beer. A bit too brazen maybe.

Bottle, 12 oz, courtesy of Enjoyit. Slightly hazy, golden-orange color and topped by a dense, off-white head. Citrusy, grapefruity aroma with a malty back. Bitter in the mouth, medium to full-bodied and quite carbonated, a bit too much maybe. There’s grapefruit, lemon peel and a malty sweetness. A nice one, tasteful and moreish, a bit heavy on the carbonation. 110129

bottle thanks to beerbill, pours hazy caramel with a medium white head. Aroma is toasted malts and nuts with pine hop notes. Flavor is toasted malts, light caramel, some metallic notes and a nice cascade finish that lingers as it dries the mouth. Not bad.
