Bottled at Bishop’s Arms Vasagatan, Stockholm. Mahogany colour, rich head. Sweet and very caramelly. Medium-full bodied with rounded mouthfeel. Some roastiness, butter and ash,but mostly caramel and spun sugar. Fairly low bitterness in a mildly warming finish. A well rounded, gentle, but not overly complex beer.

On tap at the Colonial Downs Rhythm, Bets and Brews Festival on 06/20/2009. Very dark amber body with ruby highlights and a medium creamy tan head. Sweet caramel and molassas aroma. Sweet caramel and molassas flavor with light floral notes. Medium body wtih moderately low carbonation.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a small, light brown head and a hazy amber-brown body. Aroma of wheat, marmite, yeast, toasted sesame, dirt and maple. Taste is malty and minerally with dirt and nuts. Light bubbles, bland.

12 oz. bottle from Suttree, shared with tjthresh. Pour is ruby-brown, clear, with a one inch off white head. Aroma of not much, a little bit of sweet with chemical overtones. Taste is chemically sweet malt with some roast in the finish. Not sure if this bottle was in perfect shape. Thanks Phil!

on tap-pours a tan head with dark brown-red color. Aroma is malty, nutty. Taste follows, almost, but isn’t quite right. Not for me.

Very dark reddish-brown color. Head so thick and bone-coloured it looks like nitro. Chewy molasses aroma with alcohol and earth. Sweet and strong flavour. Stinging malts - earth and molasses mainly - bring a lot of intensity to the table. Certainly not as rounded as the better European examples but this is not without appeal.

Bottle from Santa Suttree, consumed on 12/9/05. Pours a very dark chestnut with deep burgundy tints when held to the light. Head is light tan colored and consists of large bubbles. Smells roasty and vinous at first, prunes and a quite sour/acidic-like graininess. Light grassy hops provide some relief from the tartness. A touch of vanilla on the end as well. Taking my first sip and expecting it to be quite vinous and tart, I’m quite surprised to find it very light in the flavor. Roast, light chocolate, sweet toffee in the middle with prunes and roasted barley just on the edges of the palate. Initially a dirty/sandy blandish note builds on the finish, but I can’t pinpoint what it is. Though I have tasted it before in homebrews and scotch-style ales. Seems like some yeast biproduct. It passes, however, soon enough. Moderate, lightly spritzy carbonation keeps the texture fairly loose and lightly watery. Body is medium. Finishes fairly quickly with just some light, oily roast lingering and some earthy barley notes. Drinkable, with no alcohol apparency. No sediment, yet it is somewhat hazy. Head is well-retained.
