At Heavy Seas, we brew a traditional English-style pale ale with our own East Coast twist: UK Fuggles and Goldings dominate the flavor of Powder Monkey, but has subtle notes of citrus and flower from Cascade hops added in the boil and hopback. Brass in color, Powder Monkey, like all of our beers, is well balanced: distinct bitterness and a slight malt sweetness characterize the taste. In 2010, it won a bronze medal at the World Beer Cup; in 2008, it won a silver medal at the Great American Beer Festival.

Reviewed from notes.
Bottle to English pint glass.
Appearance: dark burnt orange almost amber color with a one and a half fingers of white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: light pine resin, some lemon hops, smooth clean biscuity malts - some toffee, earthy to herbal character
Flavor: blends the prior noted aromas together to a malty bitter quality
Texture: light to medium bodied - maybe a touch closer to light bodied, sessionable, fairly smooth along the tongue with that normal English styled malty bitter tone
Overall: I say a pretty nicely done English pale ale worthy to have again - pass the fish n' chips for this.

12 ounce bottle. Bright amber gold pour. Small frothy beige head. Earthy, woody malt aroma hints at mint. Flavor is reminiscent of toasted malt with floral, grassy notes. Typical British ale character. Decent.

12 oz bottle. Clear orange with a beige head. Pale, bready malts, light spice notes, light hop notes. Similar flavor. Lightly sweet to front with a bit of bitterness as well. Light-medium body. Fizzy carbonation. Okay.
