Bottled. Very deep brown colour, close to black, with a small beigeish brown head. Aroma is malts, roasted notes, raisins, coffee and some mild notes of liquorice. Flavour is strong on the malty side and also has roasted notes and quite a bunch of bready and ryebready notes in it. As it warms up coffee, liquorice, some raisins, dark fruits as well as some mild sappy notes come through. Very wellbalanced and bigtime coffeeish aftertaste.

Cask, The Dispensary, Liverpool. Pretty much jet black with a thinnish lingering tan head and some lace. Aroma revealed roasted malt, coffee and car tyre, whilst the flavour continued along similar lines with further well proportioned notes of dark fruits and chocolate. Quite full, with good balance. Creeping bitterness in the finish. Tasty stuff, and plenty of appeal here. Budmo!! (that’s ukrainian for cheers btw)

(Cask at Gallows Real Ale Festival 2011) The beer poured very dark brown and clear. Head was small and light brown. The first smell to hit my nose was cow house. After that arrived coffee and roastedness. Palate was medium bodied and dry. Flavours were burntness, ash, roastedness and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt. Way too burnt and quite unpleasant first sniff.

Good looking with a beige-brownish head to a ruby-dark body. Aroma of roasted, semi-sweet malts. Roasted malts in flavour with vanilla sweetness, offset by dry and dark hops. Pleasing on the swallow. Hand pulled cask ale at the 36th Steel City Beer Festival in Sheffield 2 Oct 10.

500ml Bottle - Very dark brown with some red tinges and a tan head. Roasted malt aroma with coffee and plain chocolate. Roasted taste with notes of coffee, chocolate and liquorice.

Cask @ 3 Judges. Obviously not an imperial stout. Black colour large white head. Aroma of roasted malts and chocolate. Flavour of roasted malts, coffee. Bitter and dry. Fruity finish. Good stuff.

Bottle from Bitter Virtue, Southampton, purchased and consumed 17-01-10 Pours black with nice soft beigey head. Aroma was wonderfully chocolatey, nice woodland wafts as well. Roasted flavours come straight to the fore but this has a really good no prisoners type of bitterness, the finish is long and dry, its got a good tang, some tobbacco, nice, nice stuff.
