After suffering a catalogue of knee injuries and under threat of never returning to playing professional football, Bournemouth FC veteran Eddie Howe was loaned from Portsmouth in 2004 back to his adopted home club, where supporters took matters into their own hands when the club’s financial problems rendered his future uncertain, raising the sum of £21,000 for his official transfer – fondly known as “Eddieshare”.
