Each version of this beer uses the same base recipe but only one variety of hop is used in each. This allows the drinker to experience the unique characteristics of a single hop variety on it’s own. They are made in a similar way to Restoration but only conditioned for 3 months prior to bottling and there is only 1300 numbered bottles made in a year. Trials were carried out with a number of different hop varieties and the low alpha "aroma" type hops gave some of the most interesting results.

Vertigo "VF" @ 9.8% ABV (uses only Fuggles hops) - amber in colour with an aroma of toffee, malt, spice and pine. The flavour is toffee, caramel, spice and herbs with a warming spicy, alcoholic finish. Status made in 2009 only.

Cloudy amber brown beer. Residual off white head. Toffee malt nose. Semi crisp and semi dry palate. Creamy dark toffee but with a carbonated sucker punch. Very light smoke. The toffee blends in to the subtle sweet orange marmalade. Soft finish, interesting beer. Again miffed at being sold an 18 month old IPA - but this is a decent barleywine!

Courtesy of fonefan; parallel with Vertigo "VC"; brewed in April 2009, 2 years old
Cloudy orange-amber color. The aroma is sweetish, with mellow malt, light alcohol, light fruits and light English hops. Good body strength, round mouthfeel, with a good and sweet malt flavor; the bitterness is objectively strong, but less prominent of the malt; there is a good fruity vein (from the fermentation) and only light sweaty hops.
Very good; balanced; better this hop’s character than the one in the VC.

cloudy brown, small white head. strange aroma, sort of herbal , but not really, sort of dusty eggy if that makes any sense. strong yeast note (baking yeast). very strange. flavor is strong well balanced hoppy, malty balance, yeast flavor almost gone compared to aroma so actually tastes okay.

Bottle 27,5 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours an opaque deep golden with a tiny off-white head. The nose has sweet and intense fruit with some skewed British hops. Solid body, very low in carbonation, almost pours thick and sirupy. Sweet fruitiness. I believe there’s quite some IBUs in this but they’re buried a little under the syrupy sweetness. 050111

Small bottle bought at Pigs Ear BF 2010 and drunk at home. Hazy deep orange amber colour with lasting beige head. I love these single hop beers and I love Fuggles so really forward to this. Sherberty leafy hop aroma. Big sweet syrupy IPA, more akin to a hoppy barley wine to be honest rather than an IPA. Some warming strawberry jam on the malts. Really this has to be a barley wine. Lovely and warming on a very cold wintery night. Hops are there but not overly dominant. Some tangy bitterness on the finish.
