Rurik: the founder of the dynasty that bears his name which ruled Kievan Rus and later Muscovy until the 16th century. This land would later spawn the Muscovy Trading Company and become a base of trade between Russia and Britain. Two styles of beer comprise this blend, old ale and imperial stout. Both are of British origin with the later made famous by its exportation to the Russian Court. Rurik is the second beer in the Campeador series, a barrel-aged collaboration between Knightly Spirits and Cigar City Brewing. Limited release of 204 bottles.

A big rich imperial stout (well its blended with others but the impy character dominates). Choc-caramel sweetness, some hot alcohol. A touch acrid, salty, minerally, roasty finish. I enjoyed it but really didn’t find it to be the most original or daring, it was a bit like a hundred other really good impies or strong ales.
