Rurik: the founder of the dynasty that bears his name which ruled Kievan Rus and later Muscovy until the 16th century. This land would later spawn the Muscovy Trading Company and become a base of trade between Russia and Britain. Two styles of beer comprise this blend, old ale and imperial stout. Both are of British origin with the later made famous by its exportation to the Russian Court. Rurik is the second beer in the Campeador series, a barrel-aged collaboration between Knightly Spirits and Cigar City Brewing. Limited release of 204 bottles.

Bottle split in the Fart Dungeon ... pre Beer Bro warm up thanks to Homer 321 ... 04/02/16 #77/204. Pitch black with a dirty tan head - a real looker. Nose is dark chocolate, earthy roast, spice, soy sauce, tangy dark fruit rinds. Taste comprises a big molastic blast, chocolate, toffee fudge, light charr, caramel, maltesers, light spice. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a boosting finale. Solid stuff.

750mL bottle, sent from StFun (thanks a lot, Josh), pours a deep dark brown / black with a big tan head. Aroma of tart dark fruits, wild notes and some fun.k. Flavour of rich dark caramel malts, some roasted malts, and some slightly sour dark fruits. Carbonation is really lively, detracting from the complexity. Fairly well-blended, but the carbonation is too awkward and too highly carbonated. Decent stuff, but on the border of being infected. Not so great.

Opaque black beer, good tan head. Light fresh palate. Creamy malt with porter like dark malt light tang. Sublte milk chocolate and even more subtle chilli. Finishes light and soft. A very easy drinking dark beer. Whispers of coffee and red berry fruits. Really nicely put together!

Entering old-rates. 75cl bottle.

Thanks to Maltzilla for that one. Bottle 61/204. Bottle looks really good. Beer in the glass very zippy. Heavy malty aroma with chocolate notes. Starts strong malty with fine hoppy notes in the background, modest bitter. Finish again very malty, with chocolate and coffee notes, modest alcoholic. All in all finish a bit too unbalanced, but still a great beer!
