Alaskan Baltic Porter is a deep, dense beer with an intricate array of aromas and flavors derived from substantial amounts of specialty malts, dark black cherries and whole gourmet vanilla beans. In order for the British to export their dark ales to the northern ports of the Baltic Sea, they were brewed stronger than normal to endure the long voyage. The extra warmth was welcomed in these countries with harsh winters and a taste for the robust, attributes that also fare well in Alaska.

On tap in a tulip glass. Very little by way of head. Strong coffee, chocolate aroma. Flavor is a mixture of chocolate, coffee, licorice, cherry, toffee. A rather sweet beer with a full mouthfeel and clean finish. The alcohol content is quite high and quite noticeable, as well. I had the beer with a meal and felt a little intoxicated afterwards.

Bottle @ home. Pours a deep black appearance with a two finger tan head. Smooth chocolate malty aroma with scents of cocoa, dark cherries, and oak. Itβs quite aromatic as soon as you open the bottle. Sweet dark cherry flavored, mild chocolate malty flavor with a nice, lighter oak flavor. Sweet fruity, chocolate finish. Some really full tasty flavors. Excellent!! (2009 vintage)

2009 vintage bottle. Deep ruddy orange-red-brown body, medium yellow-tan head. Pillowy, sweet nose with chocolate and cherry. Marshmallowy, soft, complex body, with brown sugar, cherry, toast, and bubblegum. Somewhat reminiscent of Pannepot. Quite good.

Shipped to me by my wife on a trip to Portland. Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a large brown foamy head that lingered and produced good lacing. The aroma was licorice, cocoa, raisin and molasses. The flavor was licorice, caramel, raisin, molasses, cherries and brown sugar. The finish was very long and the body was thick and smooth. Very intense flavors that made finishing the glass a bit difficult and time consuming but still quite a pleasant beer.

22oz bottle from Liquid Solutions Xmas present for me while helping a fellow BA with Secret Santa. Pours a dark brown with a smallish tan/white head that laces the sides all the way down. Nice dark ruby highlights when held to the light. Smells really sweet like cream soda. Strong aroma of dark fruits, cherries and plums, some vanilla, mix in some chocolate and some roast. Really great nose! Taste is roasted malts and dark dried fruits. Quite sweet. Finishes with a bit of alcohol and a lingering bitter fruit if thatβs possible. Sticky/silky mouthfeel, thick body, light carbonation. Great brew, I wish I had bought a few more.

Bottled. Near black, small beige head. Chocolate sauce aroma. Sweet with vanilla, cream and cocoa. Full bodied with rounded mouthfeel. Lots of vanilla and chocolate, but with seemingly rather shallow character,
