Bottle. Clear yellow color, small white head. Aroma of bitter lemon and pine. Taste is vanilla, citrus, oak. An odd combination. I’m not sure that the barrel ads anything to the style, and this one really doesn’t make me want to try other BA IPAs.

Pours clear pale orange color with off white head. Citrus and lemon aromas with some oak. Lemon and oak flavors with some crystal malt. Medium body with average carbonation. The oak and lemony hops work well together. A nice beer to try but too expensive to have again.

Bottle with a best before date of August 2nd, 2012. Pours with a clear, lighter golden hued body and a just barely off-white head. Good lace and retention. Aromas are fruity, hoppy, grapefruit, citrus zest, tangerine, lots of saw dust, spicy oak and vanilla. The citrus and oak come together with a slight metallic twang. Christmas tree. Light caramel malt. Flavors are green, oaky, spicy, citrusy. Some nice bready malt, vanillin and sawdust. Some under ripe orange. A bit metallic towards the finish. Lively bubbles, lightly tannic, dry.

To celebrate my rating number 19,300, I enter this beer from my fiancée’s native country. Bottled. An amber beer with a white head. The aroma is spicy and hoppy is it Sorachi Ace? it also has a note of fruit. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, spices, caramel, and hops. The alcohol leaves a slight bite in the mouth.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of bluebetty. Clear amber with a creamy and lacing off-white head. Amazingly fresh aroma hops in the nose - Sorachi Ace? Or is it just the barrel adding this sophisticated edge? Medium body, very dry fruit, again these extremely sophisticated notes - comes out as Sorachi Ace, but it may be the barrel coming in. Dry and bitter finish - but not excessively so. Incredibly delicious. 021110

Bright orange with an off-white head. Sweet aroma of light caramel and flowers with some pears, grapefruit and a hint of oak. Taste is very grapefruity with caramel sweetness - like a morning grapefruit dusted with soft brown sugar and stuck under the heat to caramelise. Also quite woody and a bit oxidised, with sherry and chardonnay notes. Fruity finish with lingering bitterness. Lots of nice flavours - there are English touches, Nth American touches and a definite Kiwi edge to the hops. But it seems a little muddled more than it does complex.
