Our first beer produced in the Reserve Series, Melange A Trois begins with a wonderfully big Strong Belgian-Style Blonde Ale and moves into the extraordinary category through an additional 6 month French Oak Chardonnay Wine Barrel maturation. The essence of Chardonnay permeates while a subtle sweetness remains from the Ale itself. Oak tannins combine to create a fascinating mesh of dry, sweet, and wine-like character. One of our favorites!…

Bomber - lightly hazy gold - nice nose of Chardonnay, pale Belgian malts, a touch of must/cobweb - flavor is moderately sweet, but with a pleasant balancing spicy and flinty yeast character - finish of light mineral and dry white wine, touches of oak and a very light background funk - pleasantly subtle and tasty.

Bottle, 75cl, shared by Bergstaden. It's an unclear orange colored beer with a finger-thick white head leaving the sexiest lacing. The aroma is fruity and lightly woody, with a vinous touch, some canned tropical fruits and a woody hint, some grass chiming in. The flavor too is mostly on the fruity side, with woody, tannin hints, tropical fruits and some pale malts. Rather vinous, white wine that is. Full body, with a pleasant carbonation and some warmth. Lasting fruity, white wine-ish finish. A smooth, delicious and tasteful one. 180922

A recent acquisition from a craft beer supplier in a nearby town, I am ready to sample the 750 ml bottle. It gets poured into my New Belgium tulip glass leaving a hazy, dark yellow body and a heroic, steadily replenished, almost pure white top. Great lacing I find later. Taking a sniff of it I detect yellow raisin and a little floral effect. The progression, a drink now. Yeast, yellow fruit, a bit of biscuit and a slightly boozy quality, is that from the wine barrel? A bit bitter, a bit sweet, not bad. Well worth the effort to obtain.

Bottle from the GBBF, consumed at Scott and Mandy’s, Dumbleton, Saturday 26th August 2017 Hazy, murky dirty gold gold with a white head. Plenty of warmth, steady warmth, some sweetness, oak ageing really shows, quite a good tanginess. Like it, we both love it. A7 A4 T9 P4 Ov16 4.0
