Yet another beer I reviewed while in The Red Rose, Brugge. Although this isn’t a Trappist beer the bars motto/logo ‘Trappist beer, taste the silence@ Rose Red’ certainly is true: this is a lovely place to review a few beers in. This 33 cl bottle was poured for me into an Augustijn tulip glass: hazy golden body a white bubbly crown on top, although cloudy you can clearly see rows of bubbles rising through the beer trying to replenish the crown above, so plenty of carbonisation. Mixed bag of smells: yeast, citrusy hops, cereals and maybe some baked biscuits as well, just to add a little sweetness trying to even out a mostly sour nose. The taste was also a mixture of flavours bundled together: hoppy spices, citrusy hops, Belgian yeasts, alcohol, mildly toasted malts and some pepper for good measure! Easy to drink, the alcohol being half hidden and surrounded by the aforementioned goodies: glad I noticed it on the beer menu.

33 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 7.5.2011
Sweetish aroma has some fruits, alcohol and floral notes. Dryish flavour has alcohol, fruits and hints of belgian yeast. A lot like Augustijn Blonde, but more alcohol and more dry.

As St. Stefanus Grannd Cru. Vintage in 10.2013. Bottle 75cl. Augustijn Grand Cru 0,33ml bottle. Piwo zlociste metnawe pachnace przeroznymi kwiatami i kobiecymi perfumami. Wydaje sie odrobine smaczniejsze niz Stefanus, ogolnie sadze ze to troche inne piwo. No ale coz pewnie sie czepiam. Alkohol tu nie dominowal ukryty doskonale.

On draught at Winking Lizard. The beer pours a clear golden color with a medium thin and somewhat fizzy white head that burns away steadily. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Malty aroma with notes of fruit and spice. Medium body with flavors of yeast, grainy malt and fruit. The finish is sweet and fruity with a short mildly spiced yeast aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Smaksprøve servert fra fat i mottakelsesrommet på det koselige familiebryggeriet 30 Apr 11. Lys gylden. Høyt kremaktig skum som fester seg til glasset. Syrlig fruktig aroma. Sprudlende. Søt fruktsmak som går over i en søtlig bitter ettersmak. Litt i søteste laget. (Prologen TdGeuze 2011).

Not the greatest Belgian Strong. Has flowery hints of something that never develops. Fairly shallow taste.

bottle@’t Waagstuk: hazy bright golden with a firm white head, bitter honey + bitter fruits & Belgian yeast, very floral, strong presence of spices especially in aftertaste, slight bitterness in the aftertaste as well, dry finish & some booze in there, body is a bit light with high (a bit too high for me) carbonation, not very memorable or all that impressive
