Clear deep golden color with a fine white head. Moderate intensity in the aroma. Medium (-) body and a fine carbonation. Good balance between sweetness and bitterness. Caramel malty, bready and a bit fruity flavor. Fresh, nice and easy drinkable.

Cask at the Duke of Edinburgh, Woodside, Berkshire. Hazy amber with a thin white head; simple malty aroma; thin and malty taste with some sweet jammy fruit; and a dry, dusty, biscuity finish. There’s nothing wrong with this, but it’s very basic.

Cask at the Victoria, Eastleach, Gloucs. I have always viewed this as one of the few remaining west country boys’ bitters. Light aroma, decent hops. A real thirst-quencher on a hot summer’s day.
