The Latin name for hops is Humulus Lupulus, and when we decided to brew an ultra hoppy Double IPA to celebrate the brewery’s anniversary, Humulus Ludicrous was born. Pale two-row, crystal and Munich malts form the firm malt base with thick, nutty flavours. We add a stupid amount of Centennial and Cascade hops during the brewing process and finish with running the sweet hot wort though a hopback (stuffed with more hops) on its way to the fermenting vessel. But, we’re not done yet! Three separate dryhop additions take place as we move the brew through to the aging tanks. The result is a beer with unrivalled grapefruit and orange rind aromas with a bittersweet malt finish.

Bottle: Dark, brownish-amber with a small, off-white head. Orange, spicy, lactic scent. Taste is creamy, orange malt, resin, berry....a little breadheel. Very fruity...sweet....solid pine/peel hopping.... Really good....big hopping, but not just a tossed together bomb.

Bottle. Deep amber-orange with lace. big malty nose, hoppy, old school: caramel, oranges, grass. Sweet flavor, a bit big on the caramel and toffee, with oranges and good hops. Decent but a bit too sweet for me.

Bottle - Earthy pine hops with a strong malty backbone. Clear copper with a foamy beige head. Resinous earthy hops, orange and lots of caramel malts. Nice bit of bitterness and a bit of alcohol heat. I used to really like this and either it’s not a great batch or maybe my tastes have. Still pretty decent.
