Received in trade from AlpineBryant, thanks for the opportunity! Pours a deep, clear mahogany color with a decent tightly bubbled white head that shows minimal retention and lace. Smells of rich caramel, slightly tart aroma reminds me of lemons, fig and prune and maybe a hint of non descript nut. Taste is sugary, tart, and fruity. A lemony tart fruitiness pierces the tongue right up front. Caramel, brown sugar and bread come up next then a prune fig kind of thing mixes with the spicy yeast in the finish. Spirited level of carbonation, medium body, slick sweet mouthfeel. This was decent but the tartness was unexpected. Its possible I sat on this bottle too long.

Bottled. An unclear golden beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and brettanomyces. The flavor is sweet and sour with notes of caramel, malt, and brettanomyces, leading to a lightly tart finish.

I’ve wanted to try this one for a while, so when Steve at Birreria Paradiso pulled it out as a suggestion, I was very pleased. However, I think this one missed the mark, IMHO. Pours murky maroon, small tan head that disappears rapidly. Aroma of polished gun metal, very unpleasant. Taste is sweet sour, with mixed summer fruits that are difficult to pick out, and a bit of spice. We have 4 tasters and one staff try it that night, with 4 of 5 in agreement with this rating. Perhaps skipping the honey in refermentation might help.

Another fruity, interesting beer from CL. I detected hints of chestnut, though it’s not a flavor I particularly like. I mostly got fruity malt notes of berries, raisins, apricots and plums. Some darker malt notes - burnt caramel, chocolate, fancy cola. Reddish amber beer with an ok head. Not too sweet. Mildly sour. Some stickiness. Good but weaker than the few other CL specials I’ve tried.

Bottle 75 cl. RBESG Rome 2010. Courtesy of Alex420. Hazy and dark amber with an off-white head. Tart fruit and caramel in the nose and in the flavour as well. Tart finish. I’m afraid this is infected. 060610
