An opaque musty orange with a fizzy beige head. The aroma is bourbon, oak, chocolate and a bit of strawberry. Prickly carbonation, light bodied the taste is oaky caramel/chocolate, molasses and strawberry jam. Pretty nice, itβd have scored higher if it looked nicer. Many AJB beers have been milky messes while this one was more muddy orange in color. β-drunk in 2023β- 3.5β>3.9 AJB #9 Strawberry Barleywine 11.5% Aged over 8 years now! Murky reddish brown with light beige foam. Big malty sharply boozy aroma, very malt forward with the strawberry coming through in the finish. Big malty oaky bourbon sweet oaky goodness with maple, medium bodied but surprisingly dry. This is tasting really great.

Bottle. Nose of treacle, toffee, orange, vanilla, light strawberry. Cloudy caramel-like color, decent low head. A bit of phenolic bandaid, otherwise pretty sweet. Silky, light body. A bit messy.

Bottle shared at au revoir Tokyo at Gremlin. Pours a hazy dark brown with a finger of foam that lingers. Lots of toasted caramel, toffee and milk chocolate with good bourbon notes on the nose. Hides the alcohol fairly well with a a slightly sticky feel on the palate. Dry with a little bit of hop character on the finish. Great stuff. --- Beer merged from original tick of Barrel Reserve Series #9 on 17 Oct 2016 at 00:48 - Score: 9
