bottle from Waitrose Sidmouth (08/2010). Dark brown colour, large off-white head. Malty, caramel, fudge, raisins. Some shy hops in the lingering finish.A very good beer.

Can (Thwaite’s Champion Dark Mild). Light chocolate malt aroma. Dark chestnut brown with small head. Very slight sweetness - toffee malt flavor. Smooth but light without much flavor.

Cask at Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield. An unclear dark brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of vegetables as well as lighter notes of soy sauce. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and vegetables, as well as lighter notes of roasted malt and nuts.

Bottle from Morrisons. deep ruby red, with next to no head but plenty of carbonation. Sweetish malt aroma, with roastiness and dark chocolate. Flavour started sweet, with more chocolate, before a charred edge and dryish finish. Good.

500ml bottle from Waitrose. Very very dark black dark ruby, with a disappearing beige head. It’s a decent mild. Some choc, some smoothness, it is half decent very mild and reasonably full. Very drinkable.
