Cask. Pours a cloudy and opaque black with a beige head. Nutty nose with some overripe fruit. Light body, completely flat, overripe fruit and plums but oddly no real roastiness in spite of the blackness. No bitterness either. 180110

Can 44 cl. Comes as "Thwaites Champion Dark Mild". Clear dark brown with an orange hue and a creamy beige head. Roasted, chocolatey aroma. Light body, sweet roasted malt, cocoa and coffee accents with some nuttiness. Dryish finish with very subdued hops. Highly drinkable. 160110

RBESG Sheffield, day 2, Kelham Island Tavern. Cask. Dark reddish brown colour, creamy beige head. Aroma of roasted malts and some tartness. Flavour is nutty, bit of sour roasted malts, bit of dark fruits. Seemed a bit infected.

Cask at the Load of Hay, Uxbridge, Middx (West London) on 21st June 2009. Deep red/brown clear body and very shallow short-lived off-white head. Malty aroma gives way to a pleasant bitter sweet kick with a finish that I found to be on the short side, although it seemed to lengthen when I had a second pint of the beer later in the session. Was quite flat textured though thououghly thirstquenching and refreshing.

500ml bottle, bottle-conditioned, from Morrisons. Deep chocolate brown in colour with an amber tint against the light, and a trace of off-white head; chocolate malt aroma; milky texture with smooth chocolate malts, and hints of toast and treacle; oily, satisfying finish with a gentle bitterness. A really dark reddish brown pour with a billowing cream head; malty aroma; strongly malty taste, well roasted and rather sweet; and a touch of buttery brazil nuts in the finish. A soft and smooth mild.

Cask @ The Montagu Pyke, JDW. Soho WC2. Pours a ruby dark color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty nutty caramel aroma. Roasted malty caramel flavor with some nutty hints. Has a roasted malty caramel and chocoalte finish.

Cask at The Standing Order, Edinburgh 13 Nov 08. Dark amber/ruby brown colored. A small creamy tanned head. Aroma of caramel. Cautious flavor of malt and nuts. No distinct aftertaste. Very good for itโs (lack of) strength.

Small, coarse light brown head. Translucent dark red-brown body. Very faint earthy aroma. Soft sweetish roasty straw and caramel taste, very delicate. Incredibly soft and smooth mouthfeel. Light body. Dry caramelly wooden roasty aftertaste with cinnamon and paper notes. Complex, yet incredibly easy to drink. Very nice. Could drink bucketloads of this. (0.25l cask, The Harp, Covent Garden, London.)
