Sample at Jackie O’s BBDA and Oil of Aphrodite Release and Barrel aged Beer Festival on 9/11/10. Pours a murky deep brown color with a medium off-white head that dissipates slowly. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, oak and vanilla. Medium to full body with flavors of roasted malt, caramel, dark fruit and vanilla. The finish is roasty and woody with a dark malty aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

On tap at Jackie O’s during the Barrel Aged Beer Festival. Poured a hazy yellow brown with a light brown head that dissipated slowly to the edges. Aroma was full of sweet grain and caramel with a nice sweet bourbon note. Flavor was similar with the sweet grain and caramel being backed by a nice bourbon note. Beer went down smooth as well.

On tap. Pours a beautiful and warm reddish brown with a small, off-white head. Aroma has a little Bourbon and overripe fruit. Medium-bodied, dried sweet fruit and again discreet, sweet Bourbon accents. Hardly any bitterness. Delicious. 070510

On cask at the White Horse Parsons Green London. Pours dark brown with a thin whispy head. Aroma is of bourbon with caramel. I have never had a beer that tasted more like a JD and coke. The flavour is a sweet bourbon with caramel and vanilla.

Draft. Black/brown body with a frothy, tan head, mostly diminishing. The aroma strikes is pleasantly sweet with notes of caramel, milk chocolate, toast, grass and pine. Hints of bourbon, vanilla, brown sugar and basement aromas round it out. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet, moderately bitter and lightly acidic. Medium body, watery texture turning ashy and lively carbonation. The bourbon aroma and flavor was nicely balanced with the other flavors, a big plus. Some tartness didn’t quite jibe with the character of the beer, but that is a minor complaint.
