A hoppy golden ale named after the small island at the mouth of the Dee estuary. The smooth crisp flavour of the Maris Otter barley-malt is matched by the fruity, hoppy flavours from a variety of hops to produce a refreshing golden beer.

Cask with Sarah. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of light grain and grass with a hint of underlying bitterness. Flavor starts with easy to drink grain and a light pine hop note with a hint of sweetness.

Clean and crisp with a good body, and this golden ale maintains a decent white head. Fairly fruity in taste.

Cask, Clarence, New Brighton. Clear amber colour with a thin white head. Weird aroma, some sweetish fruity notes in there, maybe some orange or apricot, but also something that put me in mind of the glue you used to get in pots as a kid that isn’t altogether that appealing. Flavour a real let down, clean but thin and rather limp in all areas otherwise. Where was the ’variety’ of hops ? Having spent a fair bit of time on Hilbre I couldn’t help but feel the island is worthy of a better beer to represent its name.
