A 6% abv dark ale is created using a traditional brewing method of making two beers of different character and strength, which are then blended together. The beer takes its name from the racing term ’Springer’, a racehorse whose odds dramatically shorten before the race.

Medium coarseish head doesn’t last. Barely translucent deep dark red body. Harmonic buttery syrupy roasty toffee aroma with linoleum notes. Dry-sweet roasty dusty buttery taste with caramelly soy sauce notes. Full-bodied. Rounded, smooth mouthfeel. Dryish earthy soy sauce aftertaste with roasty licorice toffee and caramel notes. Buttery taste and feel runs through the entire beer. QUite nice, and certainly has great restrained harmonic feel to it. (0.5l bottle, Gammel Strand Øl og Vin, Copenhagen.)

Bottle. Creamy lightbrown good mostly lasting head. Rad amber colour. Heavy malty and moderate hoppy aroma. Molasse and caramelic notes. Moderate bitter flavor. Some caramellic notes. Average moderate bitter finish. Oily palate. Nice.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of nuts, spices, and citrus. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, malt, spices, and a bit of butterscotch, leading to a dry bitter finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a clear reddish brown with a rough off-white head. Very British aroma from the hops, also sweet roasted mats. Solid body, very sweet roasted malts, dark overripe fruit, licorice, yeast and phenols. More alcohol than hops in the finish. 010510

50 cL clear bottle, courtesy of Papsoe. Pours clear and golden dark brown with a reddish glare and a small tan head. Aroma is herbal, ashtray and acidic hops. Roasted malt flavoured, dry and tobacco like hops flavoured too. Bitter hops and dry roasted malty finish.

Bottle 500ml.Clear medium to dark brown color with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, dark berry, wood - tobacco, sugar. Flavor is heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a long to average duration, malt and sugar sweet. Body is medium, texture is oily and sticky, carbonation is soft. [20100428]

500ml bottle from Morrisons/ Very dark brown colour. Bready aroma, some butter, diacetyl I think. Looks good though. Flavour has some decent fruit and brown sugar. LIttle bit of sting on finish. Bit sweet. It;s ok I suppose and a bit toasty on the malt. Sweet malt and ok if just uninspiring.
