Yet another reason to get a Sam Adams holiday mix-pack. While not very pretty, the nose holds promise, roasty yet sweet. But the first sip reveals a smooth, welcoming texture, and all the positive features of a traditional English porter, without any unwanted fruity funk. Yet the finish shows its Yankee heritage, fading into a dry coffee finish, yet accompanied by a bolstering nuttiness. Deserves its own sixer during the Winter. (1/27/09)

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a large 2" head of froth. Smells of caramel, copper, and light chocolate. Light chocolate flavor up front followed by caramels and metal. Finishes again with some bitter chocolate and coffee. OK, but not mindblowing.

Bottle from Winter Classics pack. Very faint chocolate nose, thin beige head. taste is light Roasted malt,chocolate and a bit of spice. A light hop finish. All the flavors are subdued. it left good lacing, a nice smooth mouthfeel... but overall; very standard. Still a nice brew by Sam Adams

I enjoyed this as part of a 12 pack sampler while my band was recording. Appearance pretty much black without much head. Aroma not really much of anything, maybe a little amount of spices. Taste kinda carbonated, interesting profile, mostly malty with English hop character, somewhat creamy, would like it a lot more if it wasn’t as carbonated.

Bottle 12fl.oz. @ home.[ Trade by Maria ]. Clear medium to dark red brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, toffee, butter. Initial flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter, butter, finish flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and burnt bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20100411]

Bottle. Dark brown with a small head. Aroma of roasted malt, licorice, chocolate and coffee. Flavor was roasty with notes of chocolate, raisins, coffee and brown sugar. Moderate carbonation, finish was dry and slightly bitter. A little thin but drinkable.

Second beer in my holiday sampler. Pours dark brown almost black with a little head. Pretty carbonated and malty. not overtly chocolaty but just enough. pretty decent one of the better sam adams i’ve had
