While there is a great malty foundation to this brew, Mike’s Double IPA showcases his appreciate for hops. In fact, he included seven different varieties of American hops, totaling over six pounds of hops per barrel. The hops add an intense floral and citrus aroma to this brew.

2008 bottle sold in a box set. thanks Toby. Pours out a cloudy orange topped with a nice head. Aroma was of pine and floral hop mix a lot of sweet caramel. Taste was more of the sweetness and a nice malt. I wish I could have had this one fresh. Even after a year it is still pretty good. Well done Mike.

Very hazy copper pour, sticky lace - quite a thick malt base in the nose, but with copious hop character, cherry, citrus, oats - smells almost like a super-hoppy american barleywine - a chewy malt base tries to keep the potent hop character in check, with mixed results - those hops are tasty, but they get astringent at times - thankfully, the hops mellow just slightly near the end, revealing some estery fruitiness, caramel, earthiness - again, reminding me a bit of hoppy barleywine - some alcohol heat in the finish - regardless of the slight astringency, this is some pretty tasty stuff.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy dark amber with a light brown head. Aroma is full of piney notes with a sweet undertone. Flavor is full of hops leading to a pine flavor. A bit one note.

bottle, pours light brown, tall light tan head. Peppery grapefruit hop aroma, some skunk. Sweet toasted malt, ending very bitter with a citrus note that turns to a carmelized pear bittersweetness. I like it.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright and hazy orange-caramel color with a large orange-cream head. The aroma was spicy, fruity hops with faint nutty malts. The flavor was strong with grapefruit, lemon, orange and a hint of pine and dry spice. The middle was moderately sweet, yeasty and had notes of sour caramel. The finish was medium length and fruity. The body was moderately thick. Nice but not quite up to DIPA standards.

Bottle as shown. Pours a orange copper with a small off white head that leaves good decent spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is a strong floral hops and citrus with pine and grapefruit. Medium mouthfeel with the taste is very hoppy with grapefruit and pine with a very bitter finish. Alcohol very present with an intense flavor with all of the different hops coming throughout. A very impressive IIPA from Mike!

Nice copper and light amber coloured body with a dense thick tan head. Aroma of piney and floral hops with a plentiful amount of malt and a good dose of alcohol and light fruits. Full-bodied; Strong astringent hoppy flavour in the mouth with strong alcohol and a very beefy malt backbone; some oak and bittering sugars come out near the end - but all shows toward the hops. Aftertaste is potent and bitter, but the hops definitely mean well. Overall, a pretty good double IPA - a bit less strong than most others, but still packs a punch! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased earlier today at Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia on 11-July-2009, sampled at home in Washingotn.

I’m almost always disappointed with this brewer... I don’t know why I continue to try "new" offerings by them... that said... Pours amber with an inch of white head. WOW aroma! Soap, pine, and grapefruit... oh, will this be the turning point?! NO! Way too strong of a soap and pine flavor. Too much and I like strong IPas.

12oz bottle–pours a rich light tan head and amber/copper color. Aroma is floral/herbal hops (cascade, Willamette, centennial?), secondary medium malt, then some pine, chemical. Taste is chemical/metallic/resiny hops with some bitter, secondary medium malt, syrupy mouth feel. This beer varies as I progress on both aroma and taste. And some sugary butterscotch (diacytl?). not crazy about. Thanks to Joe-jwc215 for sharing. 091025rerate-12oz bottle-pours an off white head and cloudy copper color. Aroma is orange/lemon-citrus/pine hops, secondary medium malt. Taste is orange/lemon-citrus/pine/floral hops, secondary medium malt-caramel, some tannins. Thanks stevo for sharing. 3.6

12 oz bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy orange color with a foamy white head. Aroma is citrus hops, grapefruit, touch of malts. Flavor is very hoppy, crisp, citrus. It is highly drinkable and a much more refreshing beer for a 9%er compared to many double IPAs.
