Spicy and Bold, a big Christmas cookie of a beer.

Samuel Adams® Old Fezziwig® Ale is the Christmas cookie of beer. Bursting with spices of the season and a remarkably full body, it helps those long winter nights pass much quicker. The full body hits the palate first with a depth of malt character ranging from sweeter toffee and caramel notes to the more dark, roasty chocolate notes. Then come the spices in full force. Cinnamon, ginger and orange peel dance on the tongue bringing with them the celebratory spirit that goes hand in hand with the season.

My first drink on News Years Eve 2009. A nifty little spiced ale from sam adams. Not over powering in any manor but you can taste some spice. Pours a brownish color with some bitterness.

12oz bottle drank out of the much over-hyped Samuel Adams glass. Amber-brown, looks filtered. Soapy head. Sweet, odd aroma..sugary and a touch off in my opinion. Hmm..I must say this beer is pretty shabby, below par. Lots of awkward malt notes, bordering on an Eastern European sugar bomb dark at times...the sweetness is that unappealing and lacking depth. The cinnamon is there, just enough to throw the beer off even more, or maybe it’s the culprit in the first place. Medium bodied, slightly watery, and just all around crappy, I can see why there aren’t six packs of this one.

Bottle, pours dark amber with a tal off white head. Aroma is sweet with brown sugar and spices like cinnamon and clove. Flavor is sweet as well, sweet bready malts, brown sugar and a spicy finish where the ginger is apparent. Not bad.

12 oz bottle. Aroma of cinnamon, ginger, Christmas. Appearance is deep amber with a medium dissipating head, decent lacing. Tastes like holiday treats. A little bitter, a little sweet. Kind of thin, watery. Halfway decent holiday brew.

The last rating said it perfectly, this is a good solid 7. could be great if the brewer wanted to experiment a little more, but its fine, not going to knock your socks off.

Bottle: Poured a brown with an off white head. Aroma is spicy and roasted malt. The taste is sweet with roasted caramel malt and light hints of chocolate. I also got some mouth warming woodsiness to this as well.

Overall Impression: This Sam's offering is a pretty nice offering, you see this one usually in their winter variety pack, which I've gotten a few times over the years.
