Smells a little yeasty. Pours transparent dark in my steeler stein with a film on top. Flavor like old fezzy dropped his wig in there when they brewed it, seriously! Could not detect any chocolate hints. Veggy finish with a medium lasting bitterness. Only slightly better than sammy’s cranberry lambic and that is not saying much.

Poures a nice red/brown with a medium head that leaves fairly fast. Aroma is of spices, malt and caramel. Tastes of the same, noted some cinnamon, nutmeg and malt. A little hops in the finish. Second best beer in the holiday 12 pack.

Brown ale with nice reddish hues, and a thin off-white head. Aroma of caramel, cinnamon, ginger and lemony notes. In mouth, nice sweet caramel malt, coriander and oranges. Like a light bodied belgian brown ale. I tought this was quite good. Bottle is one yr old.

12 oz bottle - I was rather impressed with this one. It’s heavily malted as most all of the Sam Adams Winter Classic pack is, and throws in some very pleasant spices. They’re balanced just right, noticeable without being overpowering. It’s got just enough alcohol to be warm on a cold winter evening.

Deep clear red-brown body, thin off-white head. Doppelbocky aroma with plum, prune, and caramel that almost hide the ginger and cinnamon. Initially, spices (especially ginger) are more evident in the flavor, but the caramely, toasty malts soon balance them nicely. The body carries over the bocklike character of the aroma, but it’s not too heavy on the palate. I’m glad I found this outside of the "winter" pack that includes their lame light beers.

Pours a ruby red out of the bottle. Aroma is sugar and spice. Flavor is caramel malts with lots of spice to go around. I get some hops present and a touch of alcohol as well. A nice brew to warm you on a cold winter night. Comes in the winter sampler. I wish they would offer this in a six pack come next winter.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark chestnut color with a medium sized tan head. The aroma was sour malt and spice - mostly cinnamon. The flavor had a nice malt presence with elements of caramel, maple syrup, fruit and spice. There was a vague, almost Belgian style flavor set to this beer. I found it rather enjoyable and only wish I could get it by itself and not just in their holiday mix case.

Bottle Pours a clear dark mahogany with a modest foamy off white head. Very fine and sturdy lacing. Aroma is a subtle note of mostly dark malts. Falvor is dark toast as the comercial description says, and some coffee and dk chocolate. I can barley detect the orange and cinimon. Feel is thin and the after taste is a slightly burnt flavor and tree bark.
