(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 26 Nov 2010) Pitch black colour with creamy, pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of liquorice, black coffee, ashes and hints of oak wood and bourbon. Malty, roasted taste with strong black coffee, liquorice, cocoa, vanilla, oak wood and a fairly vinous and warming finish with hints of burnt sugar and a generous coffee bitterness. Full body, fairly sweet with some alcohol shining through. Oh dear, what a surprise ... I didn’t see that coming from Wadworth. It would be nice if they would make this a recurring winter special. Quite impressive, and a lovely beer.
