This is one of three variants of our 'historical' stout, Valour, which is based on a 1917 recipe. These variants are very small batches of about 200 bottles of each. We thought they'd be interesting winter warmers.
This version is aged on ginger root, so it brings a little heat as well as flavour.

Bottle from Hoptimism. Appearance - opaque black. Tan head. Nose - dark chocolate and molasses. Just a subtle hint of the ginger, because you know to look for it. Taste - again, molasses with a merest hint of ginger flavour, though there is the warming effect that ginger brings. Palate - medium bodied, rich texture, slighty dried out by the ginger on the finish. Overall - very nice. The ginger is subtle but still adds something.
