A blend of 8 month aged imperial breakfast stout barrels. Sweet rich vanilla from bourbon casks is balanced by drier more vinous character and slight smoke from the second fill of a virgin oak barrel that previously held our 2019 strong smoked ale. The end result has taken on plenty of rich liquorice and molasses.

Can from the Beer Gonzo Advent Calendar box. Consumed at home Sunday 3rd January 2021 Watching Derry Girls on Netflix. We had Venison Burgers and Chips. Pours black with a tan head. Pours black with a tan head, chocolate, coffee and caramel noted though the barrel ageing presence is also evident. The flavour department is a similar story though a little dried fruit, such as raisins, dates, figs etc add to the mix. Good.

Appearance is very dark, with a small foamy beige head. Aroma is caramel, whisky, chocolate, treacle toffee, fruitcake, liqueur chocolates, vanilla. Taste is chocolate, coffee, fudge cake, dark roast malt, caramel sauce, vanilla whisky undertones, bit of peaty smoke on the end, lasting sweet finish. Tasty stuff.
