Poured from the tap @ Luppolo. Clear amber brown with small beige head. Nice soft caramel malt with very feint hops and a nice oak underlay. Smoke barely comes through, but the base beer is so good that it is just a solid beer.

Slight haze. Dark amber, with a thin head. Good dose of smoke on the nose, with some caramel sweetness. On the palate, I like the beech...weyermann I assume...the malts are coming across more toffeeish and then the alcohol slides in. While I'd prefer more malt richness, it's still worth a seidla or two.

On tap at The Magnet, pours a deep dark amber : mahogany with a small off-white head. Aroma has rich caramel malts, some dark dried fruits, and a tiny hint of smoke. Flavour is much smokier, with rich caramel malt, bready notes, a touch of dark fruits, and a lovely peated malt character. Deep, complex, peated malts. This is most excellent.

5oz pour at The Magnet. Pours clear amber with a white head. Tons of ashy charcoal and burnt caramel on the nose. Flavour has a dry caramel malt base with an excellent smoky quality that is light but strong. This is very well done.

Draught at the brewery; 8oz
Very dark, almost black, with thick beige head. Very unusual aroma (for any kind of beer), fireplace, ashes, smoking pipe. Lean mouthfeel, flavour of burnt sugar, ashes, tar, fireplace, cigarettes; no malt depth, and this is the biggest miss. This isn't going anywhere. Generous score.
