Ook wel Cascadian Dark Ale genoemd, is geen kruising tussen IPA en Stout! Een volvette hoppige IPA met een licht gebrande roostsmaak in het pallet, maar wel de donkere kleur van een stout. Centennial, Cascade en Amarillo hop in dit bier, zekers niet te zuinig!

Bottle @ Benzai, 10 cl sample. Dark color, medium frothy head. Aroma of dark fruit like blackcurrant, coffee and roast. Medium bitterness, blending nicely with roasty maltiness. Good balance, could have been a bit more hoppy, but still very good. Stadsbrouwerij Eindhoven have some pleasant surprises once in a while.

Bottle shared. Dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of roast, dark chocolate, caramel, grassy hops, floral notes and a little coffee. Flavour is above moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle @ home. Opaque dark brown to black color with a nice dark red glare coming through when held into the light, medium to full sized beige head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, quite nicely hoppy with a slight roasted malt touch in the background. Well, I’m quite surprised, very well balanced so far. Taste malts, dark malts, light roast, hops, nice fresh hoppiness that combines very well with the dark / roasty malt bitter background. Well, what a surprise, this is a top quality black IPA imo! Medium body, perhaps slightly overcarbonated, but it doesn’t really disturb me. I sincerely hope they can brew this again exactly the same cause this is quite awesome. Very well done indeed!
