(500ml bottle from the brewery & on tap @ the brewpub, Toronto, March 7/2020) Pours black with a small brown head and spotty lace. Aroma of sweetened crushed espresso beans and brewed black coffee, caramel, bittersweet chocolate, brown bread, heavy roast, ash. Flavour is mid-sweet up front, sugared black coffee, espresso roast for sure, earthy and with some dark fruit and bittersweet chocolate, crushed coffee beans, no green pepper though, malt is on a caramel tip with accents of stewed golden fruits, finish is drying and heavily bitter with lots of crushed coffee beans and bittersweet chocolate, some burnt grains and ash, bready undertones, lots of crushed coffee beans in the aftertaste. Medium-bodied, fairly oily. Drank this at Rorschach in early 2020 before shutdown and the coffee was even more intense as you’d expect but it really held up well after 3 years.
