12oz bottle. Poured a slightly dark, chestnut brown color with a small white head. Aroma was light lager - sweet caramel notes. Stale lager taste that seems typical of the style. Okay.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thick, rich, five centimetre tall pure tan head. Aroma of raisins, figs, caramelised sugars, lighter fruits such as plums and concord grapes and a dose of earth and light funk. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong peat and earthy flavours at first with a big hit of must and basementy flavours coupled with some more fruit-esque flavours like plums, prunes and definitely some raisins. Aftertaste shows a more balanced bite of earthy malts, light grassy hops, some alcohol warmth and a pretty big hit of peat and caramelised sugars near the tail end. Overall, a fairly good schwartz with a nice profile and even better complexity, especially noticeable towards the tail end. Good to try, and frankly, recommended, especially for the style and in terms of beers from this sampler pack (and really, all collaborations with Devil's Backbone). I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Shopper's in Centreville, Virginia by my coworker, given to me - Thanks Tom! on 09-September-2017 for US$15,99/twelve pack, sampled at home in Washington on 07-October-2017. .

12 ounce bottle courtesy of hershiser2. Medium brown, thin creamy off-white head, decent retention. Aroma of chocolate, toffee, nuts. The taste is caramel, plum, spice, chocolate. Thin. Not their best effort.

Bottle, Kroger, Barracks Road. Pours clear brown with only a dusting of a head. Smells of caramel malts, light peat, light leather., light vomit. Flavor is chocolate, grasses, browning leaves, watered down coffee, light corn. It’s fine, nothing special. I guess there’s a hint of pepper in the back end.
