Bottles thanks to Liquor Max and beersandblues2. Pours with a dark brown head over a dark brown body. Aroma of chocolate, hops, dark fruits and vanilla. Taste is chocolate, dark fruits and fudge. Syrupy mouthfeel and light carbonation.

Bottle from Liquor Max. Opaque black with a decent tan head. Aroma of chocolate. Medium body with mildly creamy carbonation. Flavor is toasted malt with some chocolate, coffee and maybe treacle. Finishes incredibly smooth and approaching dry. Some bitterness can be noticed finally. Highly recommended.

tap at the brewpub - Pours black with a very nice roast malt and chocolate aroma. The flavor is robust roast chocolate malt. Full bodied and rich, I wouldn’t call it a terribly complicated beer for the style, but I would call it a good one.

Sampled at the O-Town throwdown. Black pour with dark tan head. Sweet malt aroma with little bits of caramel, vanilla and root beer. The flavor has root beer, vanilla, caramel, chocolate and burnt malts. In the back ground is a hint of alcohol warmth and Barleywine like dark fruitiness.

Courtesy of kiefdog. Pours mahogany with ruby edges and thin tan head. The aroma is rich nearly burnt malts, sweet molasses, a touch of rauch and caramel. The taste is similar with molasses, some dark roasted malts, sugary sweet malts and a thin layer of musty dark fruitiness. I really enjoyed this.

Enjoyable malty porter whose hops come through in the flavor. Black pour with big, brown head. Big nose of roasted malts, coffee, molasses, caramel with a hint of licorice. The flavor started moderately sweet and ended with a nice hop presence — a bitterness that lasted into the long finish. Medium body with a watery texture and lively carbonation. The palate turns creamy at the end. Mildly acidic.

Deep black IS with a thin moka head. Sweet fruity aroma with notes of citrus underlying the sweet chocolate. Sweet chocolate and prunes with nice alcohol warmth. Rich warm bodied IS with hops bitterness staying long in mouth. Very good. May 2005.
