Formerly known as Banks's Original until 2010.

The original Banks's brew. This is the beer that made Banks's famous and is still the world's best selling mild - it's beautifully balanced, smooth and very moreish.

A light chestnut coloured beer, exhibiting a glorious balance. Malty with a perceptible burnt note, it's full bodied with a hint of bitterness counterbalancing the rich, biscuity flavour from the best barley.

The perfect accompaniment to a spicy Indian dish or strong flavoured meats and game.

On keg at a pub in Tipton 22/6/2024. Medium brown with a frothy, off-white, head. A sweetish mild, with brown sugar, some fruitiness and a gentle finish. Fine.

500ml can. Pours amber/brown with big beige frothy head. Aroma of malt, caramel and metallic notes. Low to moderate carbonation, quite watery for an ale. Malt and toast flavour, Quite sweet with a mild bitter and dry finish. Its solid enough but a bit boring.

Bottle, from historic notes. Source not recorded. Poured dark amber / brown with a small off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, bitter chocolate, caramel and a metallic edge. Moderate sweetness and bitterness. Light body, watery and slightly oily texture, average carbonation. Not great.

Poured from a 50 cl can. Labeled as bank's mild, I assume this goed underneath this version, or 'dark mild' since it is a bit colored indeed. Or are they a doublé entry ? Pours clear, dark amber to brown, small, frothy white head is stable. Smell is subtile, some caramel, some grainy features. Clean fermentation profile, and no real hop aroma. Taste is malty, bit caramelly, in depth toffee, crisp tanned malts, reminding of an English bitter, but not as bitter. Some UK style hoppy aroma ( earthy, spicy, tad floral) even though that's just a tone. I essentially really wanted to try this as a style example, since mild ales are indeed pretty rare these days. Little did I know, it's actually pretty enjoyable.
