St. Nicholas, aka Santa Claus, is a magical figure, the bringer of gifts and an icon of holiday spirit. Forgotten by most is his evil side kick and enforcer of ‘the list’. European tradition says while St. Nick is busy delivering presents to good little boys and girls, Krampus hands out punishments to the bad. A fanged, goat-horned bully, the Christmas Devil uses sticks and chains to beat the naughty children. Dark malts and aromatic hops create the diabolical spirit of this brew. It is finished with lager yeast and aged cold for no less than 30 days. This Imperial Helles Lager will warm even the darkest hearts.
This season, replace the cookies with a bottle of Krampus. If he happens to pay a visit, toast to him with this devilish brew. Merry Kramp-mas to all, and to all a good pint!

Pours a golden/orange color with a medium sized white head. Aroma is touches of citrus, spices, sweet malts. Flavor is not too heavy, notes of caramel, touch of grain, hint of hops. Finish has more hop *oomph* than any other moment while consuming it. Alcohol is extremely well hidden in this beer.

Bottle: Poured a medium orangey color lager with a large pure white frothy head with great retention and very good lacing. Aroma orange and dry European hops is quite enjoyable with some light phenols notes. Taste is a balance between some sweet malt with notes of fry European hops, light phenols and some orange notes – quite particular overall. Body is quite full with great carbonation and no signs of the alcohol. Interesting experiment overall thought not something I would drink every day.

Bomber. Hazy golden amber body. Big, pillowy white head. with lots of lacing. Very nice hoppy aroma of resin and pine with hints of citrus, toffee and alcohol. Some bready malts below the hops aromas. Some spiciness, but that seems mild. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Lots of hoppy tastes along with a strong alcoholic finish as the beer warms — almost mediciny. Medium body, watery to smooth texture, lively carbonation. Hops show enough complexity in the aroma and flavors to keep the beer interesting and to keep the underlying sweetness and spiciness in check. The peppery alcohol may be too forward, but not enough to ruin the good qualities.

Heavily hopped, like a pale ale. Cloudy and lots of alcohol. Not really a helles at all, it is far too intense for that. But it is pretty good for a European strong lager.

Bomber courtesy of sebletitje. Pours crystal clear copper with off white head. The aroma is full with floral, spice, earthy and citrus hops to go along with sweet solid malt notes. The taste is thick rich sweet malts with solid hop bitterness on top coming from floral, pine, spicy and some mild earthy hop notes. Midway it thins out for a moment before the initial hops and thickish sweet malts run up the flavor flag pole again. Not at all like a Helles in my opinion but tasty nonetheless.

Bottle on 11/23/2008 from Downtown Wine and Gourmet in Harrisonburg, VA. Clear copper amber body with a medium frothy light tan head. Big floral hop aroma, some light caramel in the background. Very sweet toasty and caramel flavor with a mild floral hop flavor and mild bitterness lingering behind. Medium light body with moderate carbonation. Hides the 9% alcohol rather well.

ST KRAMPUS SLFTO: On tap at the Bocktown, quite a nice place. Fairly clear but a little darker than a pale lager. Thin creamy head. Has a quite hoppy or pine aroma about it. Taste is really hoppy bitter, unexpected since this is supposedly a lager. Almost comes across like an APA or an imperial pilsner. Decent carbonation on this hoppy puppy. Constant oily soapy bitterness that just plain overwhelms the palate. Longer bitter linger on finish. Not as strong on the taste buds as the 9% here would indicate.

pours copper with white head. Aroma is hoppy and malty with nice herbal nose that give the beer a very fresh nose. Taste is again loaded with hops with underlying pine and herbal touch. Overall taste remains fairly herbal with notes of sweet sugar and fruits. Really got the feeling this beer was more of an IPA than a Helles Lager.

Clearish copper body, medium dense, clumpy off-white head. Surprisingly potent bitter, piney aroma, toasty, with citrus rind. Sweet, with potent alcohol. Sharp, sweet but mainly rindy herbal, earthy hops body with biting tannic bitterness and grapefruit. Bitter, rough mouthfeel. Unrefined but tasty.

22 oz bottle-pours a big light tan rocky head and amber color. Aroma is nice, sweet citrus-tangerine/lemon zest/pine/floral/perfumy (simcoe and cascade), secondary spice, syrupy, medium malt. Taste is syrupy, very sweet malty, secondary spice/pine/metallic hops, alcohol. Minimum carbonation. As I worked through this at times it clashed, at times it worked. Thanks jwc215 for picking this out.
