Bottle. Dark brown beer with a brown head. Chocolate, malt and light coffee aroma. Coffee flavor with dark chocolate, caramel, and light hops. Medium-plus bodied. Dark chocolate lingers with caramel and light coffee.

bottle - Pours very dark brown with a one finger tan head. It smells of coffee and roast malt. The flavor is similar though it struck me as too light on the malt and surprisingly thin. There’s a slight sourness or acidity to it that didn’t go well. The finish is heavy roast and some hops bitterness. It’s still fairly good but could have been better.

Bottle from Marcus. Thanks! Color is opaque black with a multifinger light tan head. Aromas of coffee and dark toasted malt. Smooth. Medium plus body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is coffee over toast. Who says Mikkeller has the breakfast stout? Finishes incredibly smooth, mostly dry.

Pours black, with a small brown head. Aroma is chocolate, malts, and coffee. Flavor is roasty, with a smooth, light coffee flavor hidden in within blasts of chocolate. To be honest it was a surprise coming from the Redhook brewery, a good surprise!

It is finally back. I used to enjoy this beer. Comes in the same comforting 22oz bomber bottle format and pours deep darkness with infra red edges and impressive mocha head. The moderate aroma carries rich roasted coffee, burnt malts, a hint of licorice and a touch of either earthiness or oxidation. The taste begins with a subtle sense of velvetiness across the tongue as notes of dark roasted coffee and burnt malts greet the taste buds. Midway licorice and earthiness surface before becoming a bit chocolate like into the finish.

22oz bomber picked up at Magruders, DC. Thick. opaque black color with some slim stained glass red corners. Nice, lasting head. Big coffee aroma. So was this the original Coffee Stout? Nu-school db double black label. This really is a nice Coffee Stout. The big malt body works quite well with the coffee. Excellent mouthfeel. A must for Stouties.

courtesy of our jolly Gillard. Batch 08-0410 Pours black with beige head. Aroma of light chocolate and earthly hops. Enjoyable coffee nose. Taste light coffee and bitter chocolate malts. Overall mouthfeel is very light and weak roasted coffee. I am in no rush to have them put this beer out again. They might want to put it on another 8 year hiatus and tweak their recipe.

Bottle: Deep brown pour with a nice fluffy beige head. Good lacing. Roasty and coffee filled aroma, transfers right into the taste. A nice bit of dark chocolate bitters too. Very good.

Batch 08-0410. Deep brown with translucent reddish edges, medium tan head. Strong coffee aroma with complementary chocolate and roasted malts. Heavy emphasis on coffee in the body, with roasted malts and chocolate, becoming somewhat sweet at warmer temperatures. Thin, woody acidity in the finish. Creamy palate, modest complexity.
