From a 500ml bottle on 21/4/2015. Pours a dark golden brown with a medium head. The nose is sweet and malty, with some dark fruit presenting, along with some Belgian yeast. Taste wise, it’s very sweet and dessert like, with lots of toffee, butterscotch, brown sugar, caramel and plum. Has the distinct abbey ale yeasty character, with a modest bitterness finishing things off. The palate is syrupy and sticky, with average to lively carbonation. This really is very good - actually much better than most Belgian dubbels I’ve tried.

Dark cherry minus the tartness, leather and candied sugar. Some liquor notes but not as present as in the aroma.

Deep brown coloured muddy body with a very thin tan head that fades very fast. Aroma of roasted malt, nuts, caramel and a lot of pit fruits. Medium-bodied; Assertive roasty flavours with caramel, coffee, figs, tea and some alcohol finishes. Aftertaste is relatively mild, with only some malty, nutty and caramel flavours tucked in. Overall, a pretty good beer - but not really a ’traditional’ dubbel - more of an american strong to me. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Slowbeer in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on 31-December-2009 for A$5.50, sampled on this side of the Pacific on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 29-May-2010.
