Malty and hoppy, we at Belhaven love the classic Scottish Ale and we’ve been brewing it longer than any of the other beers we produce. Delivering a sweet, smooth and creamy finish, Scottish Ale has a stunning ruby colour in the glass. Magic.

Part of their Merry Craftmas 6-pack. 5.2% ABV version. Pours a clear deep amber colour with a light-mocha head that dissipates quickly leaving some decent lace. Rich caramel nose with some dark fruit notes and a nutty side. The taste has caramel malts, maybe light molasses in the finish. Not much more. If this was the 3.9% version being like this, might be not bad. This one is not winner. Very bland Scottish ale.

Bottled 330ml. -from Vrutak Zagreb. Nice clear amber coloured, small off-white head, mild toffee in the nose. Sweet malty, toffee, dry nutty, hint of cardboard and notes of dried fruits near the finish. Sweet and dry overall, boring one.

0.33 l bottle from ’EDEKA Preller’ (Breckerfeld) as ’Scottish Ale’ at 5.2% abv, best before November 2017. Clear, dark brownish amber with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, off-white head. Slightly sweetish, a bit malty and slightly grassy-spicy aroma of caramel, nuts and hints of straw. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity taste of caramel, nuts, bread and some raisins, followed by a short, slightly bitter, a little grassy and minimally metallic finish. Thin to medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Okay!

11.2 fl oz botttle, blue/white label, 5.2% abv. Clear dark golden in the glass, smallest head. Malt with some sweetness on the nose, low hop in the background. Taste starts malty, low sweetness in the second row, low but increasing bitterness. Fruity background, getting more toasted malt. Dry hop and grain in the background of the second part. Smooth and easy to drink. Okay.
