Karmeliter Ur-Märzen, Flasche von Sagasser, NES (MHD: Jul 23). - Satt goldgelb, klar. - In der Nase gereiftes helles Malz, etwas Butter, ein Hauch von Karamel und milde hopfenwürzige Hopfung mit leiser Altersnote. - Antrunk brotig hellmalzig mit Tiefgang und einer deutlichen, zart säuerlichen Altersnote, die von der recht bitteren krautigen Hopfung ergänzt wird. Anklänge an Nüsse und Karamel aber kaum märzentypische Süße. Milder rezent, vollmundig. Im Abgang solide, ein wenig strenge krautige Hopfenbittere. - Solide malzig aber eigentlich nicht malzblumig (wie das Etikett sagt), mit leichten Altersnoten und streng wirkender Hopfenbittere: als Märzen etwas unkonventionell aber auf seine Weise nicht schlecht. 500ml bottle. Clear, yellow-ish, deep golden colour with average to huge, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Malty aroma, a touch of caramel, herbal hoppy overtones. Taste is minimally sweet malty, minimally strawy, cautious herbal hoppy overtones. Quite boring.

Im Glas schön leuchtende Bernsteinfarbe. Würzig-getreidiger Geruch. Der Antrunk ist würzig-süßlich mit einer ganz leicht muffigen Herbe, die im Hauptteil im Hintergrund Bestand hat. Mild-würzig auch im Hauptteil, wobei die zur Würzigkeit gehörende Süße schon fast etwas störend wirkt. Der Nachgeschmack ist lang anhaltend und würzig-süßlich zusammen mit der jetzt etwas deutlicher hervortretenden Herbe.

Bottle: Golden, visible carbonation, small persistent off-white head, clean and sweet pale-malt with a tinge of hops in the nose, some hardly detectable hops underneath, mild to moderate sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied and very soft; slightly lingering honeyish and pale-malty finish, rounded by a slight hoppy touch. Good Märzen…

(bottle) Clear, golden colour with a blond medium-sized foamy head. Grainy and strawy malty aroma with traces of cara-malt and a whiff of herbal hops. Moderately sweet and delicately bitter flavour, medium to light bodied with a modest carbonation. Slightly grainy (cara.)malty taste with herbal and slightly flowery hoppy spots; sweet malt-accented finish with a mildly hoppy touch. Lacks a bit aroma, otherwise okay. 15.II.14

bottle from Bierzwerg. Clear golden, mid-sized white head. Malty nose, pleasantly sweet with a promising hoppy touch. Medium-bodied, pleasantly malty with a sweet start, good, fresh grassy hops tune in at once. Smooth palate. Lovely.

Much foam that disappears quickly. Murky orange colour. Aroma is stale with sweetish corn, some malt and vegetables. Flavour is somewhat stale with vegetables, some sweetish malt and corn. Not good.
