A traditional Scottish ale brewed with an emphasis on the malt characteristics. Lightly hopped, as is true to this style of beer, with fruity malt aromas and a toffeeish mouth feel.

Bottled @K-Kamppi (BB 12/2010)
Nutty brown color, steady small creamy beige head. Chocolaty-nutty, aromatic hoppy nose, yeast gives light horseblankety note. As commericial description says: quite malty backbase, light hoppyness, toffeish, nutty and chocolaty, a bit light of course. Sweetish aftertaste. Something between Scottish Ale and Mild.

Cask: Dark roasted malt nose, with a whisper of smoke peat. Clear mahogany, no head. Smoke, tobacco, and red fruits, perhaps strawberry. Subdued grassy bark finish. Really quite nice.

Bottled (from bierzwerg.de). Reddish amber/brown colour with mediumsized off-white head that sticks around for quite a while. Aroma is caramel malts, mild peated/toasted notes as well as some slight fruity and floral hops. Flavour is quite much the same with also some grassyness lurking in.

Bottle, at Cardinal. A clear, copper-colored beer topped by a small, off-white head. Almost peaty on the nose, with butterscotch and some dried fruits. Butterscotch, dried fruits, roasted malts and some faint peaty hints in the mouth, full-bodied and dry. Roasted finish. A pleasant, flavorful beer where the butterscotch isnβt annoying at all. 091106

(bottle) Clear, mahogany colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Slightly sweet and dusty roast-malty aroma with caramel, cacao and a light fruit-character of apples, berries and citrus. Slightly sweet and bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Roasty malty, slightly nutty taste with caramel and subtle fruity notes; leading into a moderately dry malty and faint hoppy finish. By far not as entertaining as the Williams Bros Red, which I had parallel to this one. 22.XI.09
