A traditional Scottish ale brewed with an emphasis on the malt characteristics. Lightly hopped, as is true to this style of beer, with fruity malt aromas and a toffeeish mouth feel.

Appearance is chestnut brown with a large, lively beige head that is long-lasting and leaves nice lacing. Smell is burnt caramel and butterscotch, with a background of vanilla. Taste was like a typical dark scotch ale, subtle and bittersweet, with a dry finish. Very nice beer, easy to drink, interesting and amusing.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a tan head. The aroma has notes of dusty hops, malt, caramel, and some fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and some spices, leading to a dry spicy finish, where also a note of nuts appears. The alcohol tickles the tongue. Thanks yespr for sharing.

50 cL bottle. Pours hazy dark brown with a huge, creamy and tan head. Aroma is mild roasted and slight breadish. Sweet caramelish and slight breadish malt flavoured. Sweet roasted breadish malt flavoured finish - could counterbalance from the hops.

500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger ABV is 4.2%. Chestnut coloured beer, big to moderate creamy beige head. Moderate aroma of malts, nuts and biscuits, hints of caramel and chocolate. Distinctly malty flavour, probably some caramel malts and chocolate malts have been used here, but the beer is not very sweet. Some fruit and moderate hops in the finish. Definitely a "Scottish Ale" rather than a "Bitter" - you wonβt find many English bitters with this character these days, methinks.

Bottle. Dark brown beer with a strong head. The aroma is roasted and mildly chocolate, and the flavour is roasted, and mildly bitter with a watery chocolate aftertaste. Overall a nice bitter and chocolate flavoured beer.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Deep reddish-copper, with a big off-white head. Sweet caramel and red fruit aroma. Flavour was more of the same, with some chocolate powder in the background and some truffle in the finish. Good.

Bottle from Sainsburys, Kidlington, consumed 26-08-09 Pours dark reddy brown with a light beige head. Tastes is chewy toffee, there is some creamy vanilla. This is quite a malty beer and a bit of a one trick pony, but that said its not bad at all. A6 A3 F6 P3 Ov12 3.0
