WEST MIDLANDS BEER OF THE YEAR 2005
Tradition has it that during the visit of Queen Elizabeth I to Worcester in 1575 that Worcester acquired its second coat of arms featuring the black pears.
It is said that during her procession through the streets of Worcester the Queen saw a pear tree which had been planted in the Foregate in her honour.
She was so pleased at the appropriateness of the tree growing right in the heart of a fruit growing region, that she bade the city to add the emblem of pears to its Coat of Arms.

Cask@GBBF2009. Golden colour, small white head. ARoma is barnyard, earth, some harsh notes as well as mild suplhur. Flavour is quite much the same. Very earthy finish. Also cooked vegetables.

Cask-conditioned at the Postal Order, Malvern (JDW) 30/05/09. Deep gold, slightly hazy with next to no head. A sweetish, fruity malt driven beer, with some bittering hops in the finish but slightly spoiled by a vegetal presence lurking in the background

Cask @ GBBF 2008. Pours a clear golden color with a small white head. Has a fruity malty hoppy aroma. Fruity malty hoppy flavor. Has a sweetish fruity malty hoppy finish.

Cask at GBBF08. Hazy golden colour. The flavour has a little sweet fruit notes, might be pear, reminds me more of peach, but whatever. Not bad still.

Cask, handpump at the Great Malvern Hotel 09-03-07 . This poured golden in colour with the merest hint of haze and a thin white lasting head. Taste was really sublime, refreshingly crisp citrusy and with the most amazing hoppy bitterness that just went on for ever and a day, this really was top notch, if I had any criticism and this was only slight it was that it was served just a tad too cold for my liking otherwise it was excellent. A7 A3 F9 P4 Ov17 4.0 Had this again at The Plough, Fish Street, Worcester, 27-06-09 Pours amber with a slight haze and a white rim of bubbles was all that showed for a head. Decent full flavoured beer with a good bittersweet balance, its tasty and still a very decent drop of beer, but not the great beer that I had a couple of years back. Re-rate. A7 A4 F7 P4 Ov14 3.6

[Cask at GBBF 2005] A hazy yellow beer with no head. The aroma is sweet fruity combined with notes of caramel. While the flavor is sticky sweet malty, though with a dry end.
